Cultural Finger Puppets I n A d v a n c e ! rocessing - Creating P Souvenir! 17 seventeen Cultural Finger Puppets Colombians are different from Mexicans, Ecuadorians, Americans and Peruvians, but everybody is beautiful and unique. 1. Select a finger puppet from the Cutout Page, Unit 1. 2. Choose a country and decorate your puppet with the colors from that country’s flag. 3. Punch out the circles and insert your index and middle fingers. 4. Ask and answer questions about countries and nationalities. Hello! I’m from Mexico. I’m Mexican, and you? Hi! Where are you from? 21st Century Skills: Understand the Difference Sing the chant and think about how special you and your classmates are. Everybody is different from head to toe. Everybody is different from left to right. Everybody is different, Everybody is unique, Just like you and me. 37 Souvenir! Make sure students have access to scissors, colored pencils, glue, and other items they might need to decorate their finger puppets. Warm-Up: Ask students to identify similarities between themselves and their classmates. Encourage them to use a model like: My eyes are brown and Lily’s eyes are brown, too . 21st Century Skills: Understand the Difference 1. to 4. How-To: Slowly and carefully review the steps with students and ask them to be as creative as possible when creating their finger puppets. Allow students to choose any flag they want to use, but emphasize the importance of using the correct colors to represent the chosen flag. Ask some information checking questions to make sure they are following you (e.g. Are you making a national flag? ). Once they have finished, ask them to work in pairs to prepare a dialog. Follow the model. The chant is about respecting people’s differences. You can explain that respect means to be tolerant and accepting of other people’s ideas, even when you have a different opinion. Using a show of hands, ask a question such as: What is your opinion about cupcakes? Are they good or not good? Then say: Everybody has different opinions, and all of them are valid. Everybody is unique.
