Circle the familiar words.Then, spell them. square video game hot dog pop corn horse ball birthday dinosaur Warm-Up: Have students share some words they remember in English (e.g. cat, father, etc.) in order to review and check what previous knowledge they have. Make a long list on the board. CEFR A1.1: Can follow songs and chants using gestures and movement. CEFR A1.2: Can recognize familiar names, words and very basic phrases on simple notices in the most common everyday situations. Memory Strategy: Using physical response 1. Before doing this activity, write the alphabet on the board and have students repeat it. Then, have them listen to and repeat the alphabet song. Have students do the movements suggested to recall the different parts of the song and the names of the letters. Metacognitive Strategy: Overviewing and linking with already known material 2. Have students look at the pictures and check if they recognize the words. Explain that even if they don’t know this vocabulary, the words are easy to say and recall. Have students repeat the vocabulary after you. Elicit other words students already know in English (including the ones from the warm-up activity) and have them make a list in their notebooks.
