New Sunrise Preschool C Teacher's Guide Unit 1
T7 Portfolios New Sunrise focuses on children’s ability to use the target language in contextualized assessment activities. There is a balance in assessment since both process- and product- focused evaluation are considered. In order to make evaluation an integral part of the units, the series resorts to the portfolio methodology. Portfolios are collections or representations of language learners’ work, compiled over a specific period. Portfolios, which include self-assessment, work in several directions. First, they are informative for teachers, parents and schools. Second, they allow students to appreciate their own work and, most importantly, encourage them to keep learning. III. Components A. Student’s Book Consists of 8 lively, story-based units, each divided into 12 lessons. It offers a multi-layered design that integrates cross-curricular contents and links to home and community issues. Some pages can be included in the children’s portfolios. Unit Structure Lesson 1: Story (Part 1). Sets up a meaningful context and introduces the characters. Words in color help students notice specific language use. This lesson, as well as lessons 4 and 9, follows the methodological sequence: before , while and after reading. Lesson 2: Reading Practice. Offers practice of part of the unit’s key vocabulary and structures, with imaginative activities that also help develop social, motor and literacy skills. Lesson 3: Soft CLIL. Provides links to either math, science or social studies. Ideas on how to associate the contents with other domains, such as the home and community, are provided in this guide. Portfolio page
