18 Warm up In advance, have students ask to their parents for current pictures of themselves. Preferably a half-body or full-body picture, not only a picture of their face. Show students a picture of you as a child. Play the song I Am Happy and point to the body parts mentioned. Ask some volunteers to repeat the exercise with their own pictures. Presentation Write on the board: Portrait and Self-portrait . From a magazine, cut a portrait, and say: This is a portrait . Then, show your picture and say: This is a self-portrait. Tape each picture under the label on the board. Make sure students understand the concept of self-portrait . Practice Tell students that they are going to make their own self-portraits. Have them look at page 18. Explain to them what they have to do step by step. Have students cut out the photo frame. Ask students to color the borders and leave the suns empty. After sprinkling it, let it dry, and then collect the extra glitter on a sheet of paper. Teaching Tip Materials Have students tape the wool string at the back of the frame. Help students paste their own picture. Remind them that they have to describe their self-portrait to the class. Application Prepare a display of students’ self-portraits. Play the audio twice. Then, have individual presentations where students say the lines in the audio and add more body parts, depending on their pictures. Also, ask them to talk about their feelings at the moment of the picture. Finally, point to some body parts and check to see if students can name them. You can also ask: Who is this? or Is (student’s name) (happy)? Have students glue the empty suns. Ask students to sprinkle glitter on the photo frame.
