You can plan these activities by showing students materials that need to be organized logically. This helps them develop logical thinking when learning a new language at school. Teaching Tip Carry out a sorting and classifying activity with balloons which have been previously blown up and are different sizes. Help students to organize them according to size. Explain that the first one is little and the others are bigger because they have grown up depending on the amount of air. Tell students that they will also grow up with the passage of time. Redistribute the balloons and help students organize them according to size again, but this time beginning with the biggest. Extra Activity Ask parents to paste two pictures of their child on a sheet of paper to show students how they have grown up. One should be a picture of them as a baby and the other one should be a current picture. Then, ask each student to write their name on the sheet of paper and bring it to class. Make a classroom display and help students understand that they were little and they are now growing up. Home Connection Materials Week 2 Application Play the song My Growing Hand! a couple of times. Then, sing along with students while acting out the lyrics: start with a squatting position, showing your little hands (first two lines); then stand up slowly, mimicking “growing” (next two lines), and then finish by waving your hands (last two lines). Now, act out the meaning of hi and bye . Pretend to go out of the door, wave your hand, and say: Bye! When you come into the classroom, say: Hi! Have some students act out these words, too. Play the song at different tempos to make it fun. Presentation Wave your right hand and say: This is my right hand . Wave your left hand and say: This ismy left hand .Write on the board: This ismy right hand . Then, outline your right hand under that sentence and say: This is my right hand . Repeat with your left hand. Ask a volunteer to come to the board and outline his/her own right/left hand on the board under your hands. Have him/her say: This is my (right) hand . It’s little . Finally, continue with a couple of more students. Practice Have students look at page 11. Ask them to trace and color the right hand with dotted lines in the Student’s Book. Make sure they follow the lines properly. Finally, distribute some paint around the classroom, ask students to dip their left hand smoothly into it, and print it in the blank space. Help them if necessary.
