11 Warm up Use a couple of puppets or dolls to represent the following dialog: A : Hello! B : Hi! A : What’s your name? B : I am Samuel. What’s your name? A : I am Laura . A : Bye! B : Goodbye! Repeat this dialog a couple more times and then invite one student to take one of the roles, A or B. Next, invite another student and allow them to role play the dialog. Give them the puppets and help them to say the dialog. Practice Have the class open their books on page 11. Point to the four different shapes of the windows. Ask them to trace the shapes with their index finger. Look at the stickers page with students and, once again, point out the four different shapes of the windows. Ask them to trace the shapes with their index fingers. Point to the first sticker and ask students where they think it should be pasted on page 11, according to its shape. Repeat with the rest of the stickers, and have them paste the windows appropriately. Play the audio a couple of times, have students run their fingers under the text, and then ask them to repeat. Finally, point to Nick and ask: Is this Nick or Rommy? Repeat with Rommy. Presentation Point to a student and say: Hi! He/She should answer: Hi! or Hello! Then, ask: What’s your name? Help him/her reply with his/ her name. Next, say: Bye! and have the student answer: Bye! or Goodbye! Repeat with more students. Finally, play the song Hi There! a couple of times and have students sing along. When they get to the part where they have to use their name, point to a specific student to say his/her name. Explain the meaning of the word friends . Extended • Friends • Let’s be… Vocabulary and Expressions Lesson 5 Reading Practice Students learn a lot of vocabulary and expressions by participating in simple dialogs that they can perform using props such us puppets or other toys. Teaching Tip This is a good opportunity to have students practice the sound of the letter /h/, since this is a silent sound in some languages. Write: Hi and Hello , on the board and explain to students that the letter /h/ has a sound in English. Have them say the words. Pronunciation Tip Hi There! Hi there! Week 2 Application Have students work in pairs asking each other the question: What’s your name? Encourage them to answer by saying: I am… Instruct students to practice this very short dialog with as many classmates as they can. Then, play the song Bye Bye Friends a few times and ask students to repeat. Explain to them that you say bye or goodbye when you end a conversation. Invite students to wave their hand when they say: Bye bye friends .
